📖 Content moderation glossary
What is trust and safety?
In short
Trust and safety (T&S) is the set of policies, teams and tools an organisation uses to protect its users and its service from abuse, fraud, harmful and illegal content, and to make sure people can rely on it.
The term comes from large online platforms, where trust and safety teams write policies, moderate content, fight fraud, handle law enforcement requests and respond to crises. Content moderation is one of its main activities, but T&S also covers product design, account security and regulatory compliance.
Example: a marketplace's trust and safety team removes fake listings, bans fraudulent sellers, moderates reviews and messages, and publishes the figures required by the Digital Services Act.
Media, brands and public bodies rarely have a dedicated T&S department, but they face the same questions on a smaller scale. With OpenModeration, you just connect your pages: automation and our team take care of the rest (doubtful cases, reports, contested decisions), and you see every decision and its reason in real time.
