Community Sift alternative: how OpenModeration compares
If you moderate comments on a news site, brand pages or a public body's channels, OpenModeration is a strong Community Sift alternative: connectors for websites, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and WordPress, public pricing, DSA building blocks and EU hosting. If you run real-time chat in large games, Community Sift was built for that; here is where things stand, with sources.
Who Community Sift is for
Community Sift was built by Two Hat, a Canadian company acquired by Microsoft in 2021; twohat.com now redirects to a Microsoft page. That page describes an AI moderation platform that "combines the best of both worlds", AI and human expertise, to classify, filter and escalate user-generated content in real time, including slang, l33t speak, emojis and Unicode tricks, plus image and video moderation. It lists 22 premium languages and shows Xbox, Electronic Arts, Supercell, Kabam, Flip and MSN.
Its status: on October 30, 2026, Microsoft's product page was still online, with no end-of-life notice. A competing moderation vendor wrote in February 2026 that Microsoft had told customers their contracts would be honoured until expiry and then not renewed. We found no public Microsoft announcement confirming this, so check with your Microsoft account team.
Choose OpenModeration if…
- you moderate comments on a news site, brand pages or a public body's channels;
- you want ready connectors for Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and WordPress, plus an API for your website;
- you want to test for free on your own comments before committing;
- you need a written reason for every decision and DSA building blocks;
- your data has to be hosted in the EU, and you want a team that sets the moderation up with you.
Community Sift may suit you better if…
- you filter real-time chat in large online games, where it is used by Xbox, EA and Supercell;
- you need image and video moderation with risk sliders and moderator-friendly blurring;
- you rely on its Discord plug-in or OCR add-on;
- your Microsoft contract still runs and covers your needs for now.

An AI engine that follows the AI market
OpenModeration runs its own moderation AI, and on delicate cases its decisions are cross-checked by other AI models. The engine is model-agnostic: when a better or cheaper model comes out, our team plugs it in quickly, with nothing to change on your side.
Microsoft's page says Community Sift combines AI with human expertise, without naming the models behind it. With OpenModeration, your moderation follows the progress of AI models instead of staying frozen on one algorithm, which also matters when you choose a tool for the next several years.
Community Sift pricing compared with OpenModeration
Microsoft does not publish Community Sift prices: its page mentions "several different pricing tiers" and add-ons such as OCR and a Discord plug-in, and asks you to contact the team.
OpenModeration publishes its prices: free up to 1,000 comments analysed a month, Pro at €99 a month for 10,000 comments, and Enterprise on request for large volumes. On-premise deployment is possible on request.

For comment moderation on news sites, brand pages and public bodies' channels, OpenModeration is a strong option: connectors for websites, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and WordPress, public pricing, a written reason for every decision, DSA building blocks and EU hosting. For real-time chat in large games, look for a tool built for gaming chat.
How much does Community Sift cost?
